❧ Menu Design
❧ Poster Advertisement
❧ Product Mockups
Goal:
For this project, I wanted to create a fusion bakery inspired by both Brooklyn, New York, and Paris, France. To achieve this, thorough research was done to understand both cultures and how to combine them effectively, creating a design alongside additional materials to bring Céleste Buttermilk to life.
Céleste Buttermilk
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Céleste Buttermilk is a New York-French Fusion Bakery established in the 1980s. Céleste Buttermilk aims to bring customers in from around the world into one establishment, regardless of age or status. The atmosphere is refined and welcoming, tying into the architectural roots present in both France and Brooklyn during their artistic boom, using warmer colors and open spaces within the bakery. Each time a customer walks through the bakery’s doors, Céleste Buttermilk aims to feel like a home away from home with its welcoming staff, music selection, and, of course, the smell of baked goods always present on each visit.
Brand Promise:
“Céleste Buttermilk aims to connect and bring together a new community by introducing both Brooklyn and Paris cultures to consumers, creating a homely and relaxing environment in which any demographic can enjoy authentically made breads and pastries.”
Céleste Buttermilk Logo
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

For the Logo Design, the iconography is based around an Archway and an Apple. The archway is based on the architectural influences in both New York and France, while the apple represents growth, community, and warmth. The color palette also maintains the concept of warmth with the use of red, brown, and yellow throughout the design. Overall, these elements come together to convey the brand promise and personality at a glance.
Menu Design
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

For the Menu, the design has a decorative page spread organized into three separate categories: Breads, Pastries, and Beverages. Each section of the menu brings in the different branding elements of the bakery, ranging from the illustrations of breads and sweets to golden leaves and vines.
Poster Advertisement Design
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

For the Poster Ad, the goal was to showcase what the bakery has at a glance. The background for the advertisement showcases various illustrations such as apple slices, French breads, and other baked goods, which are all present on the main menu for the bakery. Overall, the design was made to be fun and simplistic, bringing in potential customers to the bakery or guiding them toward the website.
Package Design
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Céleste Buttermilk offers both breads and pastries for purchase in the store, allowing customers to walk inside and browse a small selection of products to take home with them. The design for the packaging has the Céleste Buttermilk logo alongside the illustrations present on the poster advertisement, adjusted to feel more unique and distinct.
Recipe Book Design
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

In order to connect more with their consumer base, Céleste Buttermilk developed two cookbooks that hold not only recipes, but stories relating to the business owners and the brand's history. Each book design uses the illustrated background style, with the limited edition cover switching to the brand's signature red with a golden leaf pattern running down the spine. Overall, the designs were made to feel both homely and high-quality, allowing for the cookbook to be passed down for generations.
Closing Reflection
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
During 2023, Céleste Buttermilk was a project I was proud of for the amount of time and research that went into it. I wanted to create a brand that reflected that research and showcased my design skills, specifically in Adobe Illustrator, which I had improved upon while attending Full Sail University. In closing, I believe that I was able to convey Céleste Buttermilk and their vision to connect others through their food selection and branding, all coming together in a home away from home.
